My son is finishing his sophomore year and loves College Prep. He came from a large international school and enjoys the small classrooms, rigorous academics, kind community, and inclusive sports and arts programs. As parents, we appreciate the welcoming, helpful community. All parents seem engaged and eager to volunteer and support the school. Monique DeVane is an inspiring, experienced academic leader. While CPS teachers have high standards, they are always available for questions. Even on the weekends! To me, it seems that the sports and dance programs are vibrant. Both D1 athletes and new-to-sports students are welcome and participate in CPS sports programs. It is wonderful to witness students support each other as they try new things: hip hop, debate, volleyball, theater, or tennis. As teenagers, I think CPS is a place they can be inspired to explore new ideas while maturing both academically and socially.
I attended College Prep and found it to be incredibly stressful. The academic pressure is intense, and the workload can be overwhelming. While some students thrive in this environment, it wasn’t the right fit for me. The teachers are knowledgeable, but the competition among students can be fierce. If you’re looking for a more balanced high school experience, you might want to consider other options.
As a student, I really appreciate the supportive community at College Prep. The teachers are always willing to help, and the students are friendly and collaborative. The workload is heavy, but it’s manageable if you stay organized. I’ve made great friends here and feel well-prepared for college.
My daughter is a freshman at CPS and is thrilled with it. The teachers are all fabulous, and are always willing to spend extra time with her, be it to give help or just to chat. The kids are all ingratiating and supportive. Though the workload is heavy, she enjoys what she has to do. The small classes are intimate and rewarding, and she is challenged in a way that was rare in her past education. The school is definitely suited to a certain kind of student though, and kids who attend must be willing to work hard. However, alongside this academic rigor, the school offers many opportunities for fun and enjoyment.
